Oil Landscape

The two trees, over and over again I paint them, only now beginning to understand their relationship.

At 3am: night colors, masses of dark against a blue-grey sky, the two oaks from my bedroom window. How can their darkness glow? - and yet it does.

Rocks, rocks and water - the imprint of water felt even on fire-formed rock.  What the river casts onto the shore - wrack lines, detritus, brushpiles that are tracks of long-gone flooding and high water, evidence of the fullness of the moving water, of life.
